JPG to DWG & Image to CAD Converter

Upload a picture, scan or screenshot of a drawing and get it back as editable CAD. The DXF is free with a free account (aginera.ai watermark); the clean DWG is $2. No AutoCAD, nothing to install.

Updated October 2026 · JPG, PNG, WEBP, BMP and scanned PDFs

CAD-exported PDFs (AutoCAD, Revit, MicroStation — real, selectable line-work) trace line for line into an editable DXF (free, watermarked) or a clean DWG. Scans, photos and images (JPG, PNG) are traced from the pixels — clean, straight-on scans give the best CAD. If a scan is too rough to trace well, we tell you and hand the same file to Aginera's AI reader instead — a bill of materials from the sheet, or a 3D model for floor plans.

Image to CAD: what you get

Converting an image to CAD means tracing the lines, arcs and text you can see in a JPG or PNG and rebuilding them as editable CAD entities — real geometry you can select, move and dimension, not the picture pasted in as an underlay.

Traced, not embedded

Walls, outlines, circles and lettering become CAD lines, polylines and text on layers — ready to edit.

Scale it once

Images have no scale, so set it from one known dimension in your CAD app, then measure and draw over it.

Opens anywhere

DXF and DWG open in AutoCAD, BricsCAD, DraftSight, LibreCAD, Fusion, and laser or CNC cutting software.

How to convert a JPG or PNG to DWG

1.Get a clean image

Scan the drawing or photograph it straight on, flat and evenly lit. A JPG or PNG at 150–300 dpi (or a phone photo of the full sheet) works best.

2.Upload the JPG or PNG

Drop the image in the converter. It becomes a one-page sheet and Aginera traces the line-work and text from the pixels into CAD geometry.

3.Check it in the viewer

Sign in free and the converted drawing opens in our CAD viewer: pan, zoom and toggle layers. Rough scans get an honest warning and the AI reader instead.

4.Download DXF or DWG

Download the editable DXF free (aginera.ai watermark) or the clean DWG + DXF for $2, and open it in AutoCAD, BricsCAD, DraftSight or any CAD app.

Tips for a clean trace

  • • Shoot straight on. Hold the camera square over the sheet; perspective makes straight walls converge.
  • • Flat, even light. Shadows and glare read as lines. Flatten folded paper.
  • • Enough pixels. 150–300 dpi for scans; for photos, fill the frame with the sheet.
  • • Crop to the drawing. Table edges, fingers and background add junk lines.
  • • Have the CAD PDF? Use the PDF to DWG converter instead — vector PDFs convert line for line.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert a JPG to DWG?

Upload the JPG to the converter on this page. Aginera places it on a sheet, traces the lines, arcs and text from the pixels and rebuilds them as CAD geometry. With a free account you preview it in our CAD viewer and download every sheet as an editable DXF (with an aginera.ai watermark); the clean native DWG is $2. No AutoCAD is needed.

Can I convert a PNG to DXF?

Yes — PNG, JPG, WEBP, BMP and GIF images all work, as do scanned PDFs. The DXF download is free with a free account; it opens in AutoCAD, BricsCAD, DraftSight, LibreCAD, and laser-cutting and CAM tools.

How accurate is image to CAD conversion?

An image has no geometry inside it, so the CAD is traced from pixels. Clean, straight-on scans at 150–300 dpi trace well: walls, lines, circles and most text come through as editable entities. Phone photos taken at an angle, creased paper, shadows and very low resolution produce wobbly or broken lines. If an image is too rough to trace reliably, Aginera says so rather than handing you a junk file, and offers the AI reader (a bill of materials, or a 3D model for floor plans) instead.

Is a PDF better than an image?

If you have a PDF exported from CAD or BIM software (AutoCAD, Revit, MicroStation), use it — its lines are real vectors and convert line for line, with exact geometry. Use an image when that is all you have: a scan, a photo, a screenshot or an old paper drawing. Both go through the same converter.

Will the CAD be to scale?

An image carries no drawing scale, so the CAD comes out in sheet units. Set the scale in your CAD app with a known dimension (for example, measure a dimensioned wall and scale the drawing to match) before you measure from it.

Is the image to CAD converter free?

Converting, viewing in the browser and downloading the DXF (with an aginera.ai watermark) are free with a free Aginera account. The clean DWG plus a watermark-free DXF is $2 per drawing.
