Pipe Spool Drawings to Bill of Material
Upload spool and isometric PDFs — scanned or CAD — and get every material line and a spool register in Excel. No parsing templates. The tables below are what Aginera actually read from two sample packages.
Aginera reads the bill of material printed on each pipe spool or isometric sheet — pipe, fittings, flanges, gaskets, bolt sets and valves with size, rating and material spec — and the sheet's own register fields (spool number, line, system, pipe class, coating, test pressure), then exports both to Excel. It works on scanned sheets, needs no per-customer template, and every line links back to the printed row it came from.
Sample 1 — a single spool isometric

How it works
Four steps from a spool package to a spreadsheet. No extraction run is needed for the material tables — this is a lighter pass than a full takeoff.
Upload the package
One multi-sheet PDF per spool package, or separate files. Scanned or CAD-exported — both read.
Read BOM tables
Open the sheet, click BOM, pick the pages, choose OCR for scans or Table for text PDFs, and read. About 20 seconds a sheet.
Check on the sheet
Every line knows where it came from: click it and the viewer jumps to that spool and highlights the printed row.
Export
Excel with a BOM tables sheet and a Spools register sheet, or CSV — ready for procurement, planning or your ERP.
Step-by-step with screenshots: PDF to bill of materials — documentation
What comes off the sheet — and what does not
From the title block, fabrication notes and design-data box Aginera captures the spool number, line number, system or service, pipe class, coating or surface treatment, drawing number, revision, sheet, design code, design and test pressure, NDE requirement, and the job or work-package number — only when it is printed. Nothing is guessed: a field the sheet does not carry stays blank.
Work package and price class are planner decisions rather than drawing content, so they are exported as empty columns on the Spools sheet for you to fill.
The reader needs a printed material list. An isometric with no bill of material is not yet a BOM source: Aginera's takeoff will read its instruments, valves and pipe runs, but it does not derive fittings, gaskets and bolt sets from the geometry. We say so on the documentation page as well.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to set up a parsing template for each customer's drawing format?
No. Aginera finds the bill of material box and the title block on each sheet by reading the sheet itself, so a package from a new client reads the same way as one you have seen before. There is nothing to drag, map or save per customer.
Does it work on scanned spool drawings?
Yes. Both samples on this page are scanned (image-only) PDFs read with the OCR method — one vision read per sheet, about 20 seconds a page. CAD-exported PDFs with a text layer are read directly from the text, which is exact and free.
What comes out for each spool?
The bill of material lines exactly as printed — position, description, size, schedule or rating, material spec, quantity and unit, with piece marks where the sheet has them — grouped by sheet. Alongside it, a spool register: spool number, line number, system, pipe class, coating, drawing number, revision, design code, design and test pressure and NDE requirement, one row per spool sheet.
How do I get it into my planning or ERP system?
Export to Excel or CSV from the BOM dialog. The workbook has a BOM tables sheet (every line, with its spool, line number, class and coating as columns) and a Spools sheet (the register, with blank Work package and Price class columns for your planner). Every row also links back to its line on the drawing inside Aginera.
Can it build a BOM for an isometric that has no material list?
Not yet. The reader needs a printed bill of material or shop/field materials table on the sheet. On an isometric without one, Aginera's takeoff reads instruments, valves and pipe runs but does not derive elbows, tees, reducers, gaskets and bolt sets from the drawing geometry — so it is not a substitute for the material list.
How accurate is it?
On the two samples on this page every printed line was read: 14 of 14 on the single isometric and 15 of 15 across the six-spool package (checked against the sheets by hand). Pipe quantities come through as printed, so a 6' pipe line reads as 6 with the unit ft. Treat the output as a transcription to review, not as a redesign of the drawing.
